Τhe European Public Law Organization (EPLO) with deep sorrow announces the loss of its dear Colleague, Friend, long-standing Member of the European Group of Public Law, lawyer, politician, and former Attorney General of the Republic of Cyprus , Alecos Markides.
He was born in Nicosia on January 23, 1943. He studied Law at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and worked as a Lawyer. On February 1, 1995, he was appointed Attorney General of the Republic of Cyprus, position which he held until April 23, 2003.
He was elected member of the Cypriot Parliament and in the 2003 Presidential Elections he claimed the office of President of the Republic of Cyprus as an independent candidate.
