The EPLO Mission to the United Nations Office in Geneva, represented by Ambassador George Papadatos, attended the historic adoption of the Convention on Decent Work in the Platform Economy, 2026 at the 114th Session of the International Labour Conference (ILC).
The new Convention—the world’s first binding international treaty on platform work—was adopted by an overwhelming vote of 406 in favour, 8 against, and 36 abstentions, safely surpassing all required thresholds.
A Major Step for Global Labour Governance
The Convention establishes international standards on job security, fair remuneration, social protection, occupational safety, and workers’ rights in digital labour platforms and marks a significant milestone in global efforts to protect workers in the rapidly expanding digital labor market.
The EPLO Office in Geneva closely followed the negotiations and will continue to monitor developments in the next stages of implementation.
