The EPLO organized a roundtable discussion on the topic “Human Rights and the Modernization of the Social Protection Systems” on 10 March 2014 at the EPLO Headquarters in Athens. Nine speakers contributed to the discussion with the following topics:
- Prof. Procopios Pavlopoulos, MP, former Minister and Professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Athens: “The boundaries of the social acquis in the framework of the Greek legal order in the light of the financial crisis”;
- Prof. Konstantinos Papadimitriou, Professor of Labor Law at the University of Athens and President of the Company for Labor Law and Social Insurance: “The degradation of the collective labor relations as a result of recent legislative reforms”;
- Prof. lykourgos Liaropoulos, Emeritus Professor of Health Economics, Director of the Lab for the Organization and Evaluation of the Health Services of the University of Athens: “The national health insurance as a right and society’s responsibility”;
- Dr. Vasilis Tsevrenis, Lawyer, Public Law PhD at the University of Athens: “Progresses and setbacks of the social protection systems in Europe & the USA”;
- Mrs. Marialena Kloka, Advocacy Officer of the NGO Praxis: “The National Action Plan for Human Rights: Vision and Cooperations”;
- Mr. Giorgos Patoulis, Doctor and Mayor of Amaroussion: “The Social Providence for the Uninsured”;
- Prof. Ioannis Tountas, Professor of Social Medicine at the Medical School of the University of Athens: “The Consequences of the Financial Crisis for the Health of the Greek Population”;
- Mr. Nikitas Kanakis, Secretary General at the NGO Medecins du Monde: “The Role of the Humanitarian Organization in the Greece of Crisis”;
- Mr. Nikos Sarris, Lawyer and Researcher at the National Center for Social Research: “The Emergence of a New European Social Model for the Protection of the Social Rights in Times of Economic Crisis.”
