OVERALL OBJECTIVE
The main objectives of the project are:
- to raise awareness among the population about the problem of water scarcity as a result of the climate crisis, chemical pollution and population growth
- to analyze the effects of water scarcity on food and energy in relation to the availability of the population
- the recording of reusable liquid waste potential in Greece
- the formulation of proposals on how to deal with the issue of water scarcity and its impact.
ACTIVITIES
- Creation of stakeholders’ consultation group including administrative bodies/ local self-government, universities, non-governmental organizations, investors/banks and other stakeholders, for a continuous dialogue, identification of problems and approximation of principles and solutions aiming to the creation of stakeholders platform;
- Preparation and dissemination of newsletters on a quarterly basis based on the outcomes of the consultation groups;
- Carrying out a public information campaign, through the organization of days to inform the population about the advantages of water reuse for irrigation, the need to save water and the ways this can be achieved, conferences for actions regarding the sustainable water management.
- Organization of an event in the context of World Water Day and demonstration of a pilot application of an example of reuse of waters in collaboration with a university or research institution.
- Carrying out a study on the national potential of municipal liquid waste, analysis of current situation, recording of the percentage of water that is led to reuse. Study and costing for the application of the technologies required for the reuse of water in all municipal wastewater produced.
- Presentation of the results of the study in a final conference as well as organization of a seminar at the United Nations in collaboration with the United Nations Water Program and other relevant organizations.
