PROJECT TITLE: EU Support for intellectual property rights system in Kosovo

OVERALL OBJECTIVE:
The overall objective of the project is to further support the role of Kosovo on economic governance through effective regulatory functions in line with SAA obligations, in order to ensure a level of protection and respect for IPR equivalent to that which exists in the EU (in accordance with Article 77 and Article 78 of the SAA).
The specific objectives of the project are to strengthen the legal, administrative and structural capacities of Kosovo institutions in charge of the development and enforcement of intellectual property rights (IPRs). The project will further align the Kosovo (primary and secondary) legislations on IPRs with the EU acquis and support monitoring international legal developments that may impact its legislation in the field of IPRs. The project will also contribute to the awareness raising on the importance of IPR protection.
ACTIVITIES:
Component 1: Legislative and Policy Development
1.1: Support the alignment of Kosovo IPR legal framework with the EU acquis
1.2: Support policy development in the field of "Intellectual Property Rights"
Component 2: Capacity Building & Enforcement
2.1: Strengthening of institutional and administrative capacities
2.2: Strengthening of coordination and reporting capacities of the "State Intellectual Property Council" and the reporting capacities of the Task Force against Piracy and Counterfeiting to enforce the effective IP System in Kosovo
2.3: Support the participation of staff of the IP Agency and OCRR in the technical meetings and working groups organised by European and International IPRs Organisations
Component 3: Awareness Raising:
Raise awareness on the importance of IPR protection among the right holders, business community, schools & universities, and the public at large and to support the full enforcement of intellectual, industrial and commercial property rights in Kosovo similar to that existing in the EU as stated in the SAA.
