PROJECT TITLE: COLCHIS - Training of Jurists on the Rule of Law and Support of the Necessary Legal Reforms in Azerbaijan

OVERALL OBJECTIVE: To train Azeri jurists on the concept of the ‘Rule of Law’ and to support the necessary legal reforms towards the establishment of a true State of Law in Azerbaijan.  In this framework, the project trained Azeri jurists on the principles of a pluralistic democracy and respect of human rights and civil liberties towards the improvement of the economic and political situation in Azerbaijan. 

ACTIVITIES:

The project included:

  • Organization of training seminars for judges, prosecutors, notaries and lawyers;
  • A one week study visit to Greece for Azeri jurists and representatives of the Azeri government; during this visit, they participated in seminars by prominent experts and were informed on the Greek and European practices on the subject;
  • Award of two three-month scholarships for studies and research in Greece to two Azeri jurists members of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan;
  • Expert missions to Baku for provision of prescripts regarding legislative reforms towards the establishment of the Rule of Law.
