The 18th Reunion of the European Group of Public Law (EGPL) was held on 14 - 16 September 2007. The Minister of Interior, Public Administration and Decentralization, Prof. S. Flogaitis, Director of the EPLO, attended and addressed the Conference. The Conference was also addressed by His Beatidude the Archbishop of Athens and all of Greece, Mr. Christodoulos.
During the Reunion, the reports of the Conference organized by the EGPL on the subject “The European Security” were presented and discussed. More than 250 participants, among which many academics, professors, government representatives, as well as old and new members coming from European and non-European countries, attended the yearly meeting of the European Group of Public Law.
Thesis Prize 2007
During the Thesis Prize meeting held for the 15th time since its foundation in 1993, Dr. Christian Behrendt was awarded the Thesis Prize 2006, while Dr. Didier Ribes and Dr. Jo Eric Khushal Murkens were awarded the Special Distinctions 2006. The Prize Committee, presided by Prof. B. Pacteau proposed to award the Thesis Prize 2007 to Ms. Elsa Bernard, Université R. Schuman, Strasbourg and Université Libre, Brussels, for her thesis La spéficité du standard juridique en droit communautaire. Also, a special distinction was awarded to Ms. Katarzyna Grabarczyk, Université de Montpellier I for her thesis Les principes généraux dans la jurisprudence de la Cour européenne des droits de l’homme.
The 18th Reunion of the EGPL proved to be very successful. The conference was followed by a 1-day visit to the Marathon Lake Dam and the Marathon Museum where the participants admired the unique landscape of the area, the ancient Tombs of Vranas, and enjoyed a typical Greek taverna meal by the seaside. The 19th Reunion of the European Group of Public Law (EGPL) will be held on 12-14 September 2008 on the subject: “Administration without Frontiers? European Migration Law”.
