1st International Conference of European Association of Professors Emeriti

Τhe European Association of Professors Emeriti of the University of Athens organized  its 1st International Conference on 30-31 May and June 1, 2019 in Athens, on “The Capital of Knowledge” at the Titania Hotel in Athens. The opening of the Conference was declared by H.E. the President of the Hellenic Republic Mr. Prokopios Pavlopoulos. The conference was conducted under the auspices of The Presidency of the Hellenic Republic. Welcome addresses was given by His Beatitude the Archbishop of Athens and all Greece Ieronymos II', the President of the Academy of Athens Professor Stefanos Imellos, the Minister of Education, Research and Religious Affairs, Mr. Konstantinos Gavroglou and the Alternate Minister for Research and Innovation Mr. Kostas Fotakis.

 A number of interesting topics of relevance to society was presented, such as: addressing the current major health problems, the contribution of science to the climate, to the climate changes and the impact of university research, The Age of Capital: How Emeritus and Retired Professors can continue to contribute to science, public health and society, as well as in literature and arts, scientific achievements over the years.

On May 31, 2019, British Professor Sir Leslie Ebdon gave a lecture at the historical Conference Hall of the University of Athens for the opportunities provided for access to University Education to as many young people as possible.

During the Conference, the activities of major Academic Institutions were presented such as the Academy of Athens, the Academy of Sciences and the French National Academy of Medicine, the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Scientific Advisory Council of the European Academies. They were also participate the Association Of Professors Emeriti Of The University Of Athens, of Northern Greece, Τhe National Technical University of Athens, The Athens University of Economic and Business, the Federation Associations Of Professors Emeriti for Greek Higer Education Institutions, and the College Of Professors Emeriti of British Columbia, Canada. The Scientific Council of Greek Medical Students was also represented.

The European Public Law Organization (EPLO) was hosted the third day, the works of the Conference at its premises in Sounio.

On the last day, after the conclusion of the proceedings the participants were visit and had a tour at the historic Temple of Poseidon, Sounion. 

The Conference was contribute scientifically in society, the health sector and the environment as well as in  future scientific quests.
