PROJECT TITLE: YPSILANTIS I - Training of Moldovan Jurists on the Rule of Law and Support for the Necessary Legal Reforms in Moldova

OVERALL OBJECTIVE: To train Moldovan jurists on the concept of the "Rule of Law" and to support the necessary legal reforms towards the establishment of a true State of Law in Moldova.

ACTIVITIES:

Moldovan jurists were trained on the concept of ‘State governed by the Rule of Law’ in order to enhance their scientific knowledge and further reinforce their professional potential.

 The activities of the project included:

  • Four training seminars addressed to judges, prosecutors, notaries, jurists, lawyers, professors and students on the following topics: Democratic Electoral Processes in Europe, Strategies for the Strengthening of the Judiciary, Human Rights and Democracy;
  • Two three-month scholarships for studies and research at the EPLC in Greece for two Moldovan jurists;
  • Five short-term expert missions to Moldova in order to provide technical expertise on issues of the legislation to the Ministries of Justice, Finance, Trade and Education and the General Prosecutor’s Office;
  • Organization of a one-week study visit to Greece for several Moldovan jurists and civil servants. During their visit, they met representatives of Greek authorities such as the Ministry of Interior, Public Administration and Decentralization, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Supreme Court and the Council of State. They also took part in the Conference of the European Group of Public Law on the Internationalization of Public Law.
  • Publications of the project's results, the experts' presentations, and their debates in a special volume of CEELS series.
