OVERALL OBJECTIVE

The main objectives of the project are:

  • to foster cooperation among key stakeholders by activating interdisciplinary Territorial Working Groups (TWGs) to co-design the data-driven HERIT ADAPT Sustainable Tourism Model (STM).
  • to develop Sustainable Tourism Model (STM) specifically tailored to Euro-MED regions, including UNESCO sites and lesser-known monuments in various geographical areas, taking into account territorial needs and visions.
  • to engage target groups to identify lessons learned and co-develop Sustainable and Resilient Tourism Strategies.
  • to convert challenges into opportunities by using heritage as a vehicle for communicating Cultural Heritage (CH) and Natural Heritage (NH) assets in the context of climate change and encourage the adoption of HERIT ADAPT innovative solutions from other regions.
  • to involve civil society and raise awareness of climate change impact through its impact on landmark CH assets, use of Mixed and Extended Reality tools, and citizen science.
  • to promote transnational cooperation by involving multiple Euro-MED and South-MED countries to deliver joint solutions and strategies to enhance sustainable tourism.

ACTIVITIES

EPLO will participate in the following WPs/Activities:

WP1 Methodology for monitoring & management of tourism & climate change related risks in touristic areas

  • Identification and Analysis of existing Plans and Strategies
  • Initial engagement of HERIT ADAPT audiences at local and MED level & awareness raising

WP2 HERIT ADAPT Sustainable Tourism Model pilot testing

  • Pilot Testing of the HERIT ADAPT Sustainable Tourism Model and tailored solutions facilitated by a common Methodology
  • Assessment and evaluation of pilot testing
  • Activation of Territorial Working Groups for co-creating Sustainable & Resilient Tourism Strategies building on HERIT ADAPT Sustainable Tourism Models in the pilot territories
  • Coordination with the mission governance projects (TCP & IDP), JS and other projects (LEAD)
  • Quadruple Helix Engagement activities

WP3 Enhancing Tourism Sustainability via HERIT ADAPT Sustainable Tourism Model

  • Creation of transferability plan of HERIT ADAPT Sustainable Tourism Model
  • Monitoring the project carbon footprint and offsetting
  • Organising Final Local Workshops and High-Level Conferences
