PROJECT TITLE: Compulsory Distillation of Wine Production By-Products

OVERALL OBJECTIVE: To enhance the quality and safety in the field of distillation of wine production of the Hungarian authorities in conformity with EU practices.
ACTIVITIES:
The project was organized and delivered in three different phases: a kick-off meeting, a two-week seminar and a series of one-week workshops. It also included a study visit to Greece.
Several Hungarian Experts from the Directorate of Hungarian Customs and Finance Guard visited Greece and the Piraeus Customs B’ Office, the State Chemical Laboratory in Athens, a distillery in Patra, a winery in Nemea and the Wine Institute of Athens, in order to get familiar with the application of legislature procedures for compulsory distillation of wine by-products.
The seminar and the workshops allowed sharing the experiences of the BC and the EU MSs in the supervision and control of distillation of by-products. The outcome of the first workshop was the elaboration of a manual to be used as a practical guide in the field, while the second workshop summarized the experiences gained and evaluated the activities undertaken.
