OVERALL OBJECTIVE

The main objectives of the project are:

  • to promote multi-purpose actions for climate change mitigation/adaptation, based on exploitation and promotion of local knowledge and assets, ensuring inclusive and sustainable growth, energy security and improved quality of life
  • to create the CO2 Pacman assessment and visual tool to assess current challenges, identify multi-sectoral solutions, and quantify their effects in terms of carbon footprint mitigation and compensation.
  • to support Mediterranean islands in transitioning to climate neutrality
  • to utilise three selected islands (Brac in Croatia, Crete in Greece and Elba in Italy) as test beds to demonstrate a comprehensive approach that combines and advances the results of previous projects (such as BLUE DEAL and COMPOSE PLUS) to co-create roadmaps towards net-zero-carbon communities.
  • to engage local authorities, citizens, and SMEs in the planning process to ensure community involvement and ownership of the transition process.
  • to develop an integrated cooperative planning framework and deliver a joint strategy/action plan that embeds policies and strategies for climate change mitigation and adaptation.

ACTIVITIES

  • Develop a unified methodology to support the CO2 Pacman assessment and prepare for pilot activities.
  • Create the CO2 Pacman tool to assess current challenges and identify multi-sectoral solutions, as well as collect data and develop scenarios to inform the CO2 Pacman tool.
  • Participatory Planning: Engage local policymakers and stakeholders in the planning process.
  • Develop a methodology for engaging stakeholders at multiple levels and sectors to advance climate neutrality in Mediterranean islands.
  • Establish a repository of solutions accessible to project partners, associate partners, and users to inform planning activities.
  • Involve local students in the project through the development of a Youth Think Tank.
  • Create and maintain partner networks in collaboration with Thematic Community Projects.
  • Monitor and offset carbon footprint associated with project activities.
  • Develop and implement a strategy for communicating project progress and findings.
  • Host collaborative workshops such as "The Island I Would Like" to foster co-creation and cooperation.
  • Develop a roadmap outlining steps for transitioning to climate neutrality.
