Call for Resident Teaching Staff

EUROPEAN LAW AND GOVERNANCE SCHOOL / EPLO

Campuses in Legraina (Greece), Rome (Italy) and Cascais (Portugal)

The European Law and Governance School (ELGS) invites applications for Resident Teaching Staff positions, commencing on 1 January 2027, at its campuses in Legraina (Greece), Rome (Italy) and Cascais (Portugal).

The ELGS is a higher education institution established by the European Public Law Organization (EPLO), an international organization dedicated to the creation and dissemination of knowledge in the area of Public Law lato sensu and Governance (www.elgs.eu). The ELGS holds the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education for the period 2021–2027. It is headquartered in Rome, Italy, and its titles of study are recognized by the Italian Republic as equivalent to those awarded by Italian universities. The ELGS also operates campuses in Legraina (Greece), Cascais (Portugal), Venice (Italy) and Tbilisi (Georgia).
The ELGS offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the fields of European Law and Governance lato sensu. In addition, it runs further educational programs, summer courses and intensive courses on contemporary issues, contributing to public dialogue and stimulating new ideas. Courses and programs are delivered mainly in situ, and students come from all over the world. The teaching staff is composed of Resident and International faculty.

Type of Appointment
Appointments are made for a period of one (1) year, renewable, and are subject to a formal employment contract with the EPLO. Resident Teaching Staff will be granted the academic title corresponding to their qualifications, beginning with the title of Assistant Professor and progressing to Associate Professor and Professor.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The main duties and responsibilities of the Resident Teaching Staff are the following:
•    Teach in undergraduate and postgraduate programs, as well as in other educational programs delivered by the ELGS or in academic programs affiliated with it, for a maximum of 234 teaching hours per academic year.
•    Contribute to the design and structure of courses; develop syllabi, prepare teaching materials, and designate required and recommended study materials for students. 
•    Organize, manage and support summer schools, workshops, webinars, training activities and open lectures.
•    Supervise theses and other academic assignments.
•    Maintain regular weekly office hours and be available for student advising and supervision.
•    Conduct research projects and pursue independent research activities.
•    Publish original academic work, all under EPLO/ELGS affiliation, including in a reputable peer-reviewed venue and in an academic journal of the EPLO.
•    Present at international conferences under EPLO/ELGS affiliation.
•    Monitor relevant funding calls and propose the submission of proposals including the drafting of the related concept note(s); participate in the preparation and implementation of funded and co-funded research programs in which the EPLO and/or the ELGS participates, including Erasmus+ and other EU or international funding schemes, as well as in academic mobility programs.
•    Contribute to the institution’s internationalisation.
•    Participate in the administrative life of the ELGS and demonstrate willingness to work collaboratively, including by undertaking administrative tasks as assigned, such as the review and updating of academic procedures, modes of teaching, assessment frameworks and other operational matters.
•    Attend faculty and governance meetings, as requested.
Teaching staff shall be physically present at their assigned campus.Teaching staff may be assigned, relocated or required to teach at any of the ELGS campuses, in accordance with institutional needs.

Required Qualifications

Eligible candidates are scholars who:
•    Hold a Ph.D. or equivalent, preferably in:
–    Political Science
–    Public Administration
–    International Relations
–    Governance
•    or a Ph.D./LL.D./J.D. in Law, preferably in:
–    European Law
–    European Governance
–    International Law
–    Business and Economic Law
–    New Technologies
–    Environmental Law
–    Migration Law
–    Rule of Law
–    or in another closely related or interdisciplinary field relevant to European and international studies.
•    Are fluent in English. Fluency in Italian, Greek and/or Portuguese, or in any other language, is an asset.
•    Demonstrate a high standard of research ability, with a research record and publications in peer-reviewed journals, books or other academic outlets.
•    Have experience in the preparation, submission and/or implementation of funded research proposals, including Erasmus+ and other EU or international funding schemes.
•    Show flexibility and the ability to prepare and teach courses within a wider focus area.

Remuneration

Remuneration of faculty will be in accordance with the Rules and Regulations of the EPLO, and the precise amount will be based upon each successful candidate’s experience and capacity.

Selection Process

A high-profile selection committee composed of academics and members of the management of the ELGS/EPLO will review all applications and shortlist candidates. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview before the final selection. Candidates will be assessed by the Faculty Board of the ELGS according to the following criteria:
•    Academic qualifications.
•    Research record and publications.
•    Teaching experience in English.
Candidates are responsible for verifying their eligibility to take up the post under the relevant immigration regulations and, if shortlisted, will be required to provide documentary evidence of their right to reside and work in the country of the assigned campus. Successful applicants will be granted a Letter of Invitation to support their visa application, where required.
