Roundtable Discussion on the Perspectives of the Euro-Mediterranean Cooperation

On the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the Euro-Mediterranean Cooperation, the Institute of the Mediterranean, an establishment of the European Public Law Organization, in cooperation with the Department of Political Sciences and International Relations of the University of Peloponnese, is organizing a Roundtable discussion on the topic of the “Perspectives of the Euro-Mediterranean Cooperation”. The event will take place on Tuesday, 26 January 2016, at 2-4 Polygnotou st., Roman Agora in the old Athens district (Plaka) from 17.00 to 19.30.

This event is organized to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Euro-Mediterranean cooperation where diplomats, academics and journalists will discuss the development and the perspectives of relations between the countries of the Mediterranean and today’s geopolitical dynamics in the region.

Welcoming remarks will be addressed by Professor Spyridon Flogaitis, Director of European Public Law Organization, Ambassador Sotirios Varouxakis, Director of the Institute for the Mediterranean, EPLO, Professor Pantelis Sklias, Chairman of the Department of Political Sciences and International Relations, University of Peloponnese.

Speeches will be given by Ambassador Dimitris Karamitsos-Giras, Director General, European Union Affairs, Foreign Minister,  Ambassador a.h.  Vassilis Papaioannou (Institute’s Board member),  H.E. Mr. Abdelkader El Ansari, Ambassador of Morocco to Greece (Dean of Diplomatic Corps), H.E. Mr. Caspar Veldkamp, ??Ambassador of Netherlands to Greece (EU Presidency), H.E. Mr. Luigi Marras, Ambassador of Italy to Greece professors, Prof. Ioannis Mazis, National and Capodistrian University of Athens, Prof. Sotiris Roussos, Associate Professor, University of Peloponnese, Academic Advisor, Centre for the Mediterranean, Middle East and Islamic Studies and journalist Mr. George Kapopoulos.            

Concluding remarks of the discussion will be delivered by Mr. Leonidas Antonakopoulos, Director, Office of the European Parliament in Athens and journalist Mr. Peter Troupiotis (Institute’s Board member).

This is the first event of the Institute for the Mediterranean and it constitutes the substantial opening of the new offices of the EPLO in a renovated neoclassical building in Plaka, after the inauguration of which took place last September with the presence of the H.E. Mr. Prokopis Pavlopoulos President of the Hellenic Republic.
