An event titled “Dialogue4Tourism - a common vision of tourism governance in the Mediterranean basin” is organized in a hybrid form on 02 March 2023 by the Circular Economy and Climate Change institute of the EPLO, broadcasted from Athens, Greece, (EPLO premises) with physical presence and online participation.
Tourism urges to overcome a great range of challenges, including lack of solid cooperation among Euro-MED public authorities and policy makers, lack of multidisciplinary and multi sectoral dialogue of tourism related stakeholders for sustainability, overtourism, seasonality, climate change, crises like Covid-19, low level of digitalization, etc.
To effectively address these challenges a shift of paradigm in governance -towards increased collaboration among levels, sectors and territories- is required. The pathway to tourism transformation requires increased capacities, institutional dialogue, improved and more effective collaboration and coordination mechanisms. The overall objective of Dialogue4Tourism is to increase the coordination level and institutional capacity of public authorities, multi-level bodies, programmes, strategies and initiatives in the Euro-MED, aiming to transform tourism into greener, smarter and more resilient. Main challenges of sustainable tourism are:
Circularity of tourism services
Environmental neutrality
Sustainable ecosystem services, and
Cultural and natural preservation of resources
Dialogue4Tourism establishes cooperation and advocacy mechanisms:
Driving Tourism Transition Panel and Hub
Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories
The cross-synergies alliance and the
Tourism Leaders’ Summit
Sustainable Tourism Policy Labs (STPLs) will be organised. Contribution to high-level and high profile events is ensured. GOV4MED is expected to contribute to Green Deal, UfM Greener Med Agenda & Ministerial Declaration on Sustainable Blue Economy, Mediterranean Strategy for Sustainable Development.
