GENERAL OBJECTIVE
Water scarcity is already affecting all continents and represents one of the greatest challenges of the 21st century. Global water consumption is increasing at more than twice the rate of population growth, and an increasing number of regions are reaching levels where residents do not have access to sufficient water, as is the case on the island of Chios.
The Chios Water SOS project aims to:
- Raise awareness among the residents of Chios regarding the quality and availability of drinking water.
- Develop proposals and suggested measures to address water supply and scarcity issues.
- Implement information, education and awareness-raising activities and promote strategies for sustainable water management on the island of Chios.
Activities:
- Design, organize, and implement two (2) conferences in Chios to highlight the problem of water scarcity and raise awareness among the general public and relevant stakeholders.
- Design, organize, and implement an event in a central location in Chios, as part of the celebration of World Water Day, in collaboration with DEYA Chios.
- Create and distribute a newsletter on a semi-annual basis to inform the public about water supply, scarcity issues, and sustainable water management initiatives.
- Produce two (2) documentaries on drinking water shortages in Chios, highlighting problems and proposed solutions.
- Organize educational discussions with students in Chios to inform them about water scarcity on the island, its consequences, and strategies for sustainable water management.
