Presentation of the project “Strengthening the Capacities of the National Assembly of Serbia in the EU Integration Process”

The presentation of the project "Strengthening the Capacities of the National Assembly of Serbia in the EU Integration Process" took place today at the Hellenic Parliament with the presence of the First Vice President of the Parliament, Mr. Giannis Tragakis and the Secretary General of the Parliament, Mr. Athanasios Papaioannou.

The project is implemented by the Hellenic Parliament through the Office of Implementation of European Programs, together with specialized partners from the Belgian, Slovak and French Parliaments, as well as experts from the Center of European Constitutional Law, the European Public Law Center and the Center for International and European Economic Law.

The project aims at improving the legislative framework, transparency, efficiency and functions of the Parliament of Serbia, as well as strengthening the legislative process and policies that contribute to the efficient fulfillment of the requirements of the country for joining the European Union.

Specifically, the program aims, through its partners, to strengthen the capacity of the administration and the Members of the Parliament of Serbia for a more efficient operation of the legislative process and organization of the Parliament. In addition, the project focuses on improving the interaction processes between the Parliament and the Government and Independent Authorities, as well as the participation of civil society in the legislative process.

The Hellenic Parliament was selected as a contractor in December 2011 by the Serbian side and the European Commission through a highly competitive process among the Parliaments of the following eight countries: France, Italy, Austria, Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, Poland and Greece.
