Three lectures on the subject of "Transparency and Human Rights" were organized by the National Security School and the EPLO took place in the Greek Police Academy.
The first lecture on the subject "Jus politiae and the Formation of State" was given by the Professor Spyridon Flogaitis, EPLO Director and Professor of the National and Capodistrian University of Athens, followed by a second lecture on "Asset Recovery on a Νοn-Conviction Base as an Anti-Corruption Method" by Dr. Ioannis Karkalis, Supreme Court Justice, Director of the Academy of Transparency & Human Rights of the EPLO. The third and final lecture was given by Mr. Yiannis Politis, Professor at the National and Capodistrian University of Athens on "The Relationships of Journalists with the Sources of Information".
The lectures are part of the broad cooperation between the Greek Police and the EPLO, reinforced by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two on 4 December 2013. The Memorandum foresees the collaboration of the two signatory parties for the strengthening and the safeguarding of their respective missions and work through the implementation of activities promoting the transparency and human rights - as fundamental values of public administrative action – and the fight against corruption. In this framework, forms of collaboration include the exchange of knowledge and experiences, the joint organization of scientific conferences, lectures etc. with the participation of officials from both parties, as well as the execution of educational and training programs.
The three lectures were attended by the Chief of Staff of the Greek Police Headquarters, Lieutenant Konstantinos Tsoubalas, the Director of the Police Academy, Major General Evangelos Venetis, the Commanders, the Deputy Commanders and Heads of the Study Units of the Police Academy. The lectures were also attended by the students of the Department of Professional Training of officers-staff of the National Security School, as well as the police cadets of the Greek Police Academy.
