The kick-off meeting for the Twinning Project “Support to Turkey’s Capacity in Combating Illegal Migration and Establishment of Removal Centers for Illegal Migrants” took place in Ankara on 11 March 2010. The meeting marked the official launch of the project and involved the presentation of all actors from both the implementing and the beneficiary institutions among them, as well as to the press.
The project aims at reforming the overall system for controlling illegal migration in line with the EU standards and best practices, and in particular strengthening the institutional capacity of Turkey in the field of detention and repatriation through the introduction of standards for Turkey’s legislative and administrative alignment to the EU acquis.
The UK Border Agency, the EPLC and the Immigration and Naturalization Service of the Netherlands of the Netherlands implement the project, which has a 18-month duration.
The meeting was part of the joint kick-off meeting of the above-mentioned project and the Twinning Project “Establishment of Reception, Screening and Accommodation System (Centers) for Asylum Seekers and Refugees” implemented by the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
