International Conference in the Framework of the KIKONES Project

The EPLO organized an international conference on “The Need for Constitutional Revision in Balkan and Black Sea Countries”, within the framework of the Project “KIKONES-Training of Balkan and Black Sea States’ Representatives on the Rule of Law and Democracy”.

The speakers in this event included academics, representatives of governments and jurists from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Croatia, Romania, Moldova, Georgia, Turkey, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Serbia, Albania, Greece, Bulgaria, France and Ukraine.

The audience consisted mainly of academics, lawyers, parliamentarians and students from the Democritus University of Thrace.

The following issues were discussed during the Conference:

  • State Reform (Decentralization, Public authorities, Autonomy, Administration)
  • The prospect of EU accession and its impact on the constitutional arrangements of the Balkan and Black Sea Countries
  • Constitutional Protection of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms. International and European Practices and National Experiences

Professor S. Flogaitis, Director of the EPLO, Ms. V. Lykoura, Head of the Institution Building Unit II, Mr. E. Kalamaras, EPLO Associate Researcher / Project Manager, Mrs. K. Lelos and Ms. K. Wientjes, from the EPLO Events Department, represented the EPLO in the aforementioned Conference.
