The European Public Law Organization (EPLO) warmly congratulates Dr. Savvas Papasavvas, member of its Scientific Council, on his election as President of the General Court of the European Union.
Dr. Papasavvas was elected by his peers following the early termination of the term of office of the previous President, Marc van der Woude, and will serve as President of the General Court from 16 September 2026 to 31 August 2028.
A distinguished jurist with more than two decades of service at the General Court, Dr. Papasavvas was first appointed as a Judge in May 2004. He subsequently served as President of Chamber for two consecutive terms, from 2010 to 2016, before being elected Vice-President of the General Court in September 2019, a position he held until his election as President.
Born in Nicosia, Cyprus, Dr. Papasavvas studied law at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens before pursuing postgraduate studies in public law at Paris II University and completing a doctorate in law at Aix-Marseille III University. Prior to his appointment to the General Court, he practised law in Cyprus and taught at the University of Cyprus, including as Senior Lecturer in Constitutional Law.
The EPLO is particularly proud to count Dr. Papasavvas among the distinguished members of its Scientific Council. His election as President of the General Court represents an important recognition of his longstanding contribution to European law and to the administration of justice within the European Union.
