Ambassador Barbara Faedda, Permanent Observer of the European Public Law Organization (EPLO) to the United Nations and Executive Director of the Italian Academy at Columbia University, met with Ambassador Giorgio Marrapodi, Permanent Representative of Italy to the United Nations, at the Permanent Mission of Italy in New York.
The discussion focused on strengthening cooperation in support of the rule of law at the global level, a core priority for both the EPLO and the Italian Government. Ambassador Faedda highlighted EPLO’s ongoing work in promoting good governance, legal capacity‑building, and the dissemination of best practices internationally—areas in which Italy has long been a committed partner.
Italy is a co‑founder of the EPLO and played a key role in supporting the Organization’s recognition as an Observer to the UN General Assembly in 2018. The meeting reaffirmed the strong collaboration between Italy and the EPLO, particularly in advancing multilateral efforts related to the rule of law, the moratorium on the death penalty, and the fight against transnational organized crime.
Following the meeting, Ambassador Faedda noted:
“It was an honor to meet with Ambassador Marrapodi today in my dual capacity as EPLO’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Executive Director of the Italian Academy at Columbia University. Our exchange focused in particular on advancing the rule of law at the global level—an objective that lies at the heart of EPLO’s mandate and is equally of central importance to the Italian Academy.”
The EPLO Permanent Delegation to the United Nations continues to engage with Member States, UN bodies, and academic institutions to promote the rule of law, democratic governance, and institutional strengthening worldwide.
