EPLO Participates in UN General Assembly High-Level Week in New York

The European Public Law Organization (EPLO) was represented in New York during the 2026 United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week by its Director, Professor Spyridon Flogaitis, and Dr Barbara Faedda, Permanent Observer of the EPLO to the United Nations.

"The Charter of the United Nations begins with three simple words: “We the peoples.” Not we the powerful. Not we the victorious. We the peoples – all of us – bound by a single conviction: that we are safer, stronger and more human when we stand together."
- António Guterres, 26 June 2026

The annual High-Level Week brings together Heads of State and Government, senior officials and representatives of international organizations at United Nations Headquarters for the General Debate and a wide range of high-level meetings and initiatives addressing major global challenges. The 81st session of the General Assembly took place under the theme,“Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all.”

EPLO’s presence during High-Level Week forms part of its continuing engagement with the United Nations and its commitment to advancing the rule of law, democratic governance and international cooperation. Since being granted Permanent Observer status at the United Nations General Assembly in 2019, EPLO has participated in the General Debate and related initiatives at UN Headquarters.

This year, EPLO’s program in New York also included the High-Level Side Event “Cultural Heritage at Stake: Addressing Looting, Illicit Trafficking and Restitution through International Law, Operational Cooperation & Cultural Diplomacy,” co-organised by the Permanent Missions of Greece and Italy to the United Nations in cooperation with EPLO. Dr Barbara Faedda moderated the discussion, which brought together government representatives and international experts to address the protection of cultural heritage through law, operational cooperation and cultural diplomacy.

The participation of Professor Flogaitis and Dr Faedda in UNGA High-Level Week further underlines EPLO’s role as an international forum for dialogue and cooperation on public law and governance, and its active contribution to the work of the international community through its Permanent Observer Mission to the United Nations.
