EPLO – IMEDIPA Conference on the future of regulation

The major challenges for the legislation at a time when structural changes are taking place in the Continent with a view to European integration, was the issue that was discussed at length at a one day conference organized by the European Public Law Organization (EPLO) and the Institute of Studies in Competition Law and Policy (IMEDIPA) on Wednesday, July 22, at the King George hotel, in Athens.

Under the title "The Future of Regulation: between Expertise and Democracy", Greek and foreign scientists developed and discussed with the audience, issues having to do with the balance sought today between the imposed reforms, democracy, common law and populism.
Also discussed matters in judicial review of evidence-based regulation, behavioral economics, bank runs, systemic stability, banking regulation etc.

The conference was divided into five sessions and speakers were:

- Prof. George Katrougalos, Professor of Public Law at Democritus University of Thrace; Minister of Labor and Social Insurance.

- Prof. Panagiotis Karkatsoulis, National School of Public Administration (ASPA); Member of the Greek Parliament.

- Prof. Mattias Kumm, WZB/NYU Law.

- Prof. Ioannis Lianos, University College London.

- Prof. Aristides Hatzis, University of Athens.

- Dr. Georgios Dimitropoulos, Max Planck Institute Luxembourg.

- Dr. Matteo Gargantini, Max Planck Institute Luxembourg.

- Prof. George Dellis, University of Athens Law School.

- Dr. Deni Mantzari, Reading Law School.

- Ms. Rebecca Schultz, OECD.

- Mr. Giorgios Psaroudakis, Bank of Greece.
