The 8th Session of the EPLO Global Rule of Law Commission is taking place on 8 and 9 January 2026 in Cascais, Portugal, bringing together eminent personalities from across the globe to advance discussions on the Rule of Law in a rapidly changing world.
Structured according to the principle of geographical representation, the EPLO Global Rule of Law Commission brings together distinguished experts from all regions of the world. Its mission is to develop a comprehensive global concept of the Rule of Law that upholds universal values while respecting cultural diversity and fostering genuine dialogue among civilizations. The Commission also stands ready to offer, upon request, its advice and expertise to states on Rule of Law–related matters.
A key highlight of the session will take place on 9 January, when the Commission launches its 2025 Report, dedicated to "The Rule of Law in Africa." The report will be presented during a special public event at the Cascais Cultural Center, bringing together representatives from academia, the justice sector, and members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Portugal.
The session and the report launch underscore the Commission's ongoing commitment to promoting inclusive, globally informed approaches to strengthening the Rule of Law worldwide.
