The 12th of the International Lecture Series, “Manuel Chrysoloras”, under the title “Does the financial crisis oblige us to change our social rights?” ("La crise nous oblige-t-elle à changer nos droits publics?"), took place on Monday, May 29th at 19.00, at the premises of EPLO, in the center of Athens.
Jean-Bernard Auby, Professor of Public Law at the Sciences Po University (Paris) and Director of Director of the Chair "Mutations of Public Action and Public Law", was the guest speaker.
"Public law is the "key" to private property, the rule of law and human rights. And during this time, it is put in test in many European Union countries, and within Greece in particular- due to the economic crisis. Does it adapt to the repeated structural changes? And if yes until when? What are the limits?"
These views and concerns were raised by Professor Jean-Bernard Auby in his speech. During his speech, he argued among other things that there is need for fiscal integration in the European Union and a federalisation of the system. He noted the "lack of solidarity" and stressed that "only through more Europe we can overcome the crisis." A dialogue with the audience followed his speech .
The distinguished speaker was presented to the audience -mainly politicians, senior and senior magistrates, diplomats, lawyers, scientists and academics- the Director of the EPLO Prof. Spyridon Flogaitis. The event was the 12th in the series of international conferences set up by the EPLO in memory of Manuel Chrysoloras(1355-1415), the Greek scholar, a leader in the introduction of Greek culture and literature in Western Europe.
