PROJECT TITLE: Modernization and Upgrading of the Operational Capacity of the Customs and Tax Departments of Malta – Assistance to the Malta VAT Department with the development of the administrative system needed to implement refunds of VAT to EU and third country traders in accordance with ad hoc EU Directives    

COUNTRIES: Malta

OVERALL OBJECTIVE: To create the best possible conditions for the establishment, on the date Malta would become an EU Member State, of a fully operational scheme to affect the refunds of VAT to VAT taxpayers who are established outside Malta, under the conditions set in the European Council Directives on VAT. The specific objective of the project was to formulate a strategy and detailed action plan to achieve the establishment of the system in a timely fashion.

ACTIVITIES: 

The VAT Department of the Greek Ministry of Finance, together with the EPLC and all supporting institutions provided recommendations for the establishment of a fully operational scheme for the refunds of VAT to VAT taxpayers not established in Malta.
