On 12 June 2026, the European Public Law Organization (EPLO) and the Institute for Sustainable Development hosted the FOODGaP – Interreg NEXT MED stakeholder dialogue at the EPLO Headquarters in Plaka, Athens, under the title:
“The Cost of Food and Food Security in Greece: Towards Fair, Sustainable and Resilient Local Food Systems.”
The event brought together representatives from public authorities, local governments, agri‑food businesses, supply chain actors, the hospitality and tourism sectors, civil society organisations, academia, and stakeholders working on food security and sustainable development.
We were honoured by the presence of the Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food, Mr. Ioannis Andrianos, who contributed to the discussion on current challenges and future opportunities for Greece’s food systems. Opening remarks were delivered by Professor Spyridon Flogaitis, Director of EPLO, and Mr. Spyros Kouvelis, Director of the Institute for Sustainable Development.
Through presentations, panel discussions and stakeholder exchanges, participants examined key issues including rising food costs, food security, food waste, climate‑related pressures on food production, support for producers, and the role of participatory governance in shaping fairer and more resilient local food systems.
The dialogue provided an important platform for cooperation among stakeholders and contributed to the objectives of the FOODGaP project in advancing sustainable food governance and local food policies across the Mediterranean region.
The event received broad media coverage, including through the Ministry of Rural Development and Food and the Athens–Macedonian News Agency, and was reproduced across multiple national outlets.
