The EPLO in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan, had the honour to host three esteemed jurists from Baku on 10 - 15 December 2006, within the framework of the Project “COLCHIS: Training of Jurists on the rule of Law and Support of the Necessary Legal Reforms in Azerbaijan”. Mr. Kamran Bayramov, Deputy Director of the Department of Human Rights and Public Relations at the Ministry of Justice of Azerbaijan, Mr. Tofig Samadov, Chairman at the Court of Justice of Garadagh district of Baku and Mr. Khagani Taghiyev, administrative member of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan and soon to be appointed as Judge, visited Greece in order to meet the local state authorities.
The agenda of the study visit included among others, meetings held at the Hellenic Ministry of Justice, at the Greek Ombudsman’s office, at the Legal Council of the State, at the Hellenic Supreme Court of Penal and Civil Cases (Areios Pagos), a tour at the Avlonas Juveniles detention establishment, and a meeting at the Hellenic Data Protection Authority. The Azeri delegation was presented with the role, mission and competences of all the aforementioned authorities and was given the chance to discuss thoroughly and compare the judicial systems of Greece and Azerbaijan.
