Institute for Local Autonomies in Europe

This research institute is a joint initiative of the European Public Law Organization (EPLO) and the University of Trento's Faculty of Law, supported by the Autonomous Province of Trento.

Mission

The Institute aims to:

  • Advance research, study, and training in national, comparative, and European public law.
  • Promote deeper understanding of local and regional autonomies in Europe.
  • Develop strategic methodologies and tools for analysing territorial governance.
  • Strengthen scientific cooperation between EPLO, the University of Trento, and European research networks.

The comparative research programme will examine the evolution of competences between State and Regions and the legal instruments used across different systems as well as competence and funding relations between Regions and the State.

The partnership reflects the shared commitment of both institutions to the creation and dissemination of knowledge and contribute to advancing research into the role of territorial autonomy in administrative reforms and administrative simplification.
