On Saturday, May 23, as part of the 3rd Sustainable Development Forum organized by the Club of Rome – Hellenic Chapter, and held this year at the historic Athenian Club, Professor Katsoyiannis, Director of the EPLO Institute for Sustainable Water Management and Water Law, had the honor of serving as one of the keynote speakers. Following his address, he received the Agnes Vlavianos Award, an annual distinction presented to scientists who advance sustainable development and environmental protection.
The Club of Rome is an international think tank and non‑profit organization founded in 1968, bringing together more than 150 global intellectuals and business leaders, as well as 35 national associations, to address the systemic challenges facing humanity and the planet. The group rose to global prominence with its seminal 1972 report, The Limits to Growth, commissioned from researchers at MIT. Using pioneering computer modeling, the report simulated the consequences of unchecked resource consumption and population growth on a finite planet, famously warning of the risk of global collapse by 2100 if prevailing trends remained unchanged.
