FoodDiplomacy Network Launched with Strong Greek Leadership

The FoodDiplomacy Network, a new independent global platform for dialogue and analysis on food diplomacy, has taken its first public step with the publication of its Manifesto. The formal establishment of the Network will follow the completion of the necessary institutional arrangements, ensuring a solid foundation for its long‑term development.

A New Approach to Global Food Systems Governance
The FoodDiplomacy Network highlights the central role of food in international politics and global stability. Recent crises — from the COVID‑19 pandemic to the war in Ukraine — have exposed the vulnerability of global food systems and the need for more integrated, politically informed approaches to their governance.

The Network aims to serve as a space where governments, international organisations, the private sector, academia, and civil society can engage in open dialogue and develop new ideas and policy approaches for global food systems.

Strong Greek Involvement

Greece plays a leading role in the initiative.

The Network was founded by Dr. Stefanos Fotiou, former senior official of the United Nations and the FAO, with extensive experience in global food systems governance.

The initiative is supported by two key Greek institutions:

  • the European Public Law Organization (EPLO)
  • the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA)

Professor Spyridon Flogaitis, Director of EPLO, and Professor Spyridon Kintzios, Rector of AUA, participate as members of the Network’s Founders’ Circle.

The Founders’ Circle

The FoodDiplomacy Network is built around an international Founders’ Circle representing five continents, including:

  • Ibrahim Mayaki, former Prime Minister of Niger and Special Envoy of the African Union
  • Graziano da Silva, former Director‑General of FAO and current Director of the Zero Hunger Institute
  • Inaya Ezzeddine, Member of Parliament of Lebanon
  • David Lane, former U.S. Ambassador to the UN Agencies in Rome

alongside other leaders from civil society and the private sector.
