EPLO Ambassador Dr Ugljesa Zvekić met with Ms. Monica Juma, the newly appointed Director-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

Ambassador Zvekić congratulated Ms. Juma on her appointment and wished her every success in her new responsibilities. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on current global challenges related to governance, security, the rule of law and sustainable development, as well as the important role of multilateral cooperation in addressing them.

Ms. Juma assumed office on 11 May 2026 as Director-General/Executive Director of UNOV/UNODC, holding the rank of Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations. Prior to her appointment, she served as Kenya's first National Security Adviser and Secretary to the National Security Council, having also held several senior ministerial and diplomatic positions, including Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Defence and Energy, as well as Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the African Union, IGAD and UNECA.

Ambassador Zvekić highlighted EPLO's longstanding commitment to promoting public law, democracy, good governance and the rule of law at the international level, expressing the Organization's interest in strengthening engagement with UN entities working in these fields.

The meeting underscored the shared commitment of both organizations to advancing effective, inclusive and accountable institutions and fostering international cooperation in response to emerging global challenges.
