PROJECT TITLE: Training on Animal Protection During Transport

OVERALL OBJECTIVE: To enforce the EU acquis on animal welfare, with specific reference to control procedures during the transportation of animals. The project also envisaged the establishment of a data transmission system between veterinary inspectors executing the animal transport checks and the central register of transporters and the upgrade of the route plan checks’ system.
ACTIVITIES:
The project was organized and implemented in three different phases: a first preliminary and preparatory work phase, a second phase training when Slovakian personnel was trained (some 240 veterinary inspectors) in relevant animal welfare tasks, and a final stage for follow-up and verification of the training activities. The trainings included 10 internships in an EU Member State (Greece).
Ten Slovakian veterinary inspectors were trained in Greece, in the form of study visits and field trips. Two groups of Slovakian inspectors visited the Border Inspection Post of Promachon on the Greek-FYROM border in order to observe the practical application of rules and checks pertaining to animal protection during international transport. Another group visited the Regional Veterinary Service of Thessaloniki.
Technical requirements and administrative procedures for licensing and subsequent inspection/ supervision of transportation means were established as well.
