PROJECT TITLE: ROXANA I - Establishment of a Center for Supporting Women in Afghanistan

COUNTRIES: Afghanistan

OVERALL OBJECTIVE: By establishing a Center for Supporting Women in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, the EPLC intended to contribute to the protection of the fundamental rights of women, as well as to the smooth social and economic rehabilitation of the female population  after the end of the recent war. The goal was to establish an effective support network, which would tackle the needs of women in their social and economical role. In particular, the project aimed at the re-assurance of procedures for the improvement of access and the training of women. A pillar of the project was to make women aware of their duties, responsibility and their capacity to take decisions as citizens, in an attempt to overcome the economic and social problems of their gender.

ACTIVITIES:

The project activities were scheduled to take place in three phases and included:

  • Setting up of a Center for Supporting Women in Kabul (with equipped training room and office), managed by local staff;
  • Training of a selected group of women working in five Afghan Ministries (Women Affairs, Commerce, Finance, Justice, Information and Culture) on issues regarding human rights, women’s rights, constitutional rights, international conventions on the discrimination against women, democracy, electoral rights, etc. The team of trainers and national authorities selected by the EPLC included both international and local experts;
