PROJECT TITLE: Assessment of the National Legislation in the Scope of Schengen Acquis

COUNTRIES: Latvia

OVERALL OBJECTIVE: To prepare all relevant authorities for the effective Schengen acquis implementation. The specific aims of the project included the effective implementation of the Schengen acquis in the field of cross-border surveillance and hot pursuit and in the field of data protection. 

ACTIVITIES:

The activities were divided into four different components: Cross-border surveillance and hot pursuit, Data protection within the framework of the Schengen acquis, Elaboration of the legal basis for the National Schengen Information System, Report on future activities for the Schengen acquis implementation. 

The project included the following activities:

  • Drafting of a report on future activities for the Schengen acquis implementation;
  • Seminar on the “best practice” for cross-border surveillance and hot pursuit Seminar on effective data protection within the framework of the Schengen acquis in Riga, Latvia;
  • Examination and assessment of the current situation in data protection in Latvia;
  • Seminar on the EU MS experience and elaboration of the legal basis for the National Schengen Information System in Riga, Latvia;
  • Workshop on elaboration of the legal basis for the National Schengen Information System;
  • Study Visit on Components A & B;
  • Study visit to Greek border surveillance stations for Latvian representatives from law enforcement agencies and for the practical experience in the field of data protection.
