PROJECT TITLE: ALEXANDROS - Legal and Judicial Reform in Iran 

COUNTRIES: Iran

OVERALL OBJECTIVE: To contribute to the legal reform policy of the Iranian Government, by enhancing the knowledge of Iranian judges and lawyers on issues related to European law and human rights.

ACTIVITIES: 

Among the activities, a delegation of twelve high-ranked Iranian judges visited Athens for a period of two weeks during June 2003. During their stay, the judges participated in some seminars on EU and Hellenic law, they visited all the High Courts (civil and administrative), they met the President and some representatives of the Athens Bar Association, and they visited the prisons of Athens.

Furthermore, starting from May 2005, three seminars of one week each were held in Tehran at the Law Faculty of the University of Tehran or at the Institute of International Relations of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the visits, the delegation from Greece held several lectures on EU Institutions and its Courts, as well as on Human Rights and met several personalities of the Iranian judiciary and academic world.
