The “EPLO Malta Meetings” initiative and an international prize for the promotion of the Greek-Turkish friendship were announced at the EPLO Board of Directors Meeting.
New initiatives including the “EPLO Malta Meetings”, as well as an annual international prize and annual international lecture supporting and promoting a new era of rapprochement and friendship of Greece and Turkey were announced on the occasion of the EPLO Board of Directors meeting that took place on 8 September at the premises of the EPLO in Sounio, Greece.
Specifically, following a very successful cooperation between the Parliament of Malta and the EPLO for the organization of the first Malta Meeting on the topic “The Sovereign Debt Crisis and the New Boundaries of the State” that was hosted by the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Malta earlier this summer in Valletta, the “EPLO Malta Meetings” initiative was adopted for the annual organization of similar meetings, gathering distinguished Europeans to discuss important issues of public law, and hosted by the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Malta. The Malta Meetings are a common initiative of Professor Giuliano Amato, former Prime Minister of Italy and Hon. Michael Frendo MP, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Malta. The scientific secretariat of the Meetings is entrusted to Professor Giulio Napolitano, who had the scientific responsibility for the first Meeting as well.
During the EPLO Board of Directors meeting, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Malta, Hon. Michael Frendo MP and the EPLO President of the Board of Directors and Director, Prof. Spyridon Flogaitis, signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
The establishment of an international prize to be offered on an annual basis to individuals or activities which have contributed in any possible way, to the promotion of the Greek-Turkish friendship, decided by a tripartite international Committee, Turkish, Greek and international, and presided by an international public figure, as well as the annual organization of an international lecture in Athens, Greece, given by a high profile public figure from Turkey, were also adopted. The initiatives were introduced by the Bahcesehir University, member of the EPLO Board of Directors.
