The EPLO Director, Professor Spyridon Flogaitis, visited Riga for the purpose of discussing with government officials the prospect of Latvia joining the EPLO as a new member state.
Specifically, on 8 December, the Director held meetings at the Ministry of Justice with the Deputy Minister of Justice, Mr. Martins Lazdovskis and the Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Inga Skujina, as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia, Mr. Atis Sjanits, and the Director of the Legal Services for International Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Iena Bilmane, in order to discuss all aspects involving Latvia’s potential membership in the EPLO, including the obligations that Latvia would have to assume towards the EPLO.
On 9 December, the Director visited the University of Latvia, where he was invited as an external examiner for the defense of doctoral thesis. Following the completion of the doctoral defense procedures, the Director met with the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Anita Rodina, the Director of European and International Studies, Professor Artus Kuks, and Professor and Judge at the Constitutional Court of Latvia, Jautrite Briede to discuss the University’s accession to the EPLO as a member institution.
The visit was supported by D1 Directorate for the UN & International Organizations and Conferences of the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was organized by the Embassy of Greece in Latvia.
