2nd Round of Seminars in the Framework of the ARARAT Project

The EPLO, in collaboration with the Center for Training of Judges of the Cassation Court of the Republic of Armenia, organized the second round of seminars on “Electoral Disputes: The Contribution of the Greek and Armenian Jurisprudence”, within the framework of the Project “ARARAT - Support to Free and Fair Elections in Armenia”.

The speakers in this event included distinguished Greek jurists from the Hellenic Administrative Courts of First Instance and the Greek Ombudsman’s Office, as well as Armenian jurists from the Court of Cassation of the Republic of Armenia.

The audience consisted mainly of judges from the First Instance Courts of various districts of the Republic of Armenia, as well as judges from the Courts of Appeal, along with representatives from the Center for Training of Judges, the Central Electoral Committee and the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The following issues were discussed during the seminar:

  • Incompatibilities and legal obstacles for eligibility 
  • Jurisprudence on other issues of the electoral code 
  • Historical introduction on electoral disputes, presentation of the supreme special court and other courts judging pleas against the validity of the results of the legislative elections in terms of procedural issues
  • Overview of electoral disputes in Armenia

Ms. P. Protopsaltis, Deputy Director of the EPLO, and Ms. A. Dareiotaki, EPLO Associate Reseracher/ Project Manager, represented the EPLO in the aforementioned seminar.
