Workshop on Access to Justice for Children at Risk of Social Exclusion

Twenty local and international experts in minor rights gathered to exchange know-how on children's access to justice and draft a series of recommendations to be proposed to public authorities, at the national and international level, for better applying international principles concerning children's rights' justiciability, participation and enforceability, at a workshop held at the EPLO headquarters in Athens, Greece, on 20 April 2012.

During the workshop, EPLO project coordinator, Fani Stathoulopoulou, welcomed the participants and made a presentation of the project, while project field researcher, Dr. Stamatina Poulou, presented the results of the research study on the minor rights in Greece. Dr. Olga Themeli, Ass. Professor in the University of Crete gave a speech on the second victimization of the children dealt with sexual abuse. An open discussion on the principle of the child friendly justice, as well as an exchange of good practices at the national and EU level followed. Mrs. Sofia Kostantellia, social worker, and Fani Stathoulopoulou, EPLO project coordinator, presented the findings from the Ateliers, weekly workshops with children living in institutions, unaccompanied minors, and roma that took place from September to November 2011 at the EPLO headquarters.

The workshop was organized in the framework of the project "Minor Rights - Access to Justice for Children at Risk of Social Exclusion" implemented by the EPLO in partnership with the NGO Save the Children Italy, the Association of Legal Studies on Immigration of Italy, Roma Tre University of Italy, the Institute of Migration Studies of the Comillas Pontifical University of Spain and co-funded by the European Commission.
