Conference on "European Economic Law faced with New Challenges"

The EPLO organized a two-day conference on the topic “European Economic Law faced with New Challenges” on 12 and 13 July 2013 at the EPLO premises in Sounion.

German and Greek scholars gathered to explore the topic in the framework of six themes: European Banking and Financial Law, European Corporate and Capital Market Law, European Private Law, European and International Procedural Law, Private Law as Means of Regulation, and Competition Law. 

The corresponding chairs to the themes were: Professor Klaus J. Hopt, Max-Planck-institut fur Auslandisches und Internationales Privatrecht, Professor Spyridon Flogaitis, National and Capodistrian University of Athens, Director of the EPLO, Professor Michael Stathopoulos, National and Capodistrian University of Athens, Professor Apostolos Georgiadis, National and Capodistrian University of Athens, Associate Professor Georgios Sotiropoulos, National and Capodistrian University of Athens, and Professor Dimitrios Tzouganatos, National and Capodistrian University of Athens.

Specifically, Professor Rudiger Veil referred to the harmonization of Union Capital Market Law, Professor Nikolaos Vervesos to the sanction mechanism for infringements of capital Market Law, Professor Christoph Kumpan to the conflicts of interest in Corporate Law, and Professor Friedmann Kainer to the course towards a single European competition policy. The scientific committee of the Conference included Professor Klaus J. Hopt, former Director of the Max-Planck Institute Hamburg, and Professor Dimitrios N. Tzouganatos, University of Athens Law School.
